Helen Hasting’s Art in a Trunk

By Sue Savard

The words of Cecilia Beaux, William Chase, and Howard Pyle come alive through Helen Hastings’s detailed notebooks. Helen studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art under these three amazing teachers from 1898-1904. Her art and notebooks were stored in her trunk for 100 years. This book, Helen Hastings’s Art In A Trunk, brings to light her teachers’ words, personalities, and teaching methods along with a one-of-a-kind collection of many of her oil painting studies. It’s an invaluable resource for art historians, art museums, and art lovers of all ages and a treasure worth owning!

In His Words – Brockport 1858-1866: From The Diary of Joseph A. Tozier

By Sue Savard

In His Words is the transcribed diary of Joseph A. Tozier–teacher, scholar, and entrepreneur. It captures the political, social, and intellectual life of Brockport, NY from 1858 to 1864. After the opening of the Erie Canal, Brockport became a thriving agricultural and industrial community. Tozier’s diary, and his scrapbooks of original materials, also authenticate his life’s story during the Civil War period.
